Book Review: India has been a land of immigrants, influenced by cultures from different parts of the world. We had the Aryans, the Iranians, the Persians, the Greeks, the Turks, the Mongols and most recently the modern era Europeans leaving an impact on our lifestyles and our genealogy. The most notable and the oldest of them being the Aryans or the 'Devas' as mentioned in this story. History has largely been repetitive as the wars fought have been favorable towards the migrants in most of the cases. The peace loving 'settled' Indigenous people were prone to martially disciplined, barbaric and ruthless nomadic tribes and ambitious kingdoms. The tropical subcontinent of India being climatically favorable was always the centre of attraction for various migrant tribes, expanding kingdoms and colonial conquests.

These invaders brought with them their alien tales, beliefs and cultures resulting in a mixed race and cultural vividness much of which forms the present day India. The famous epic of the land - The Ramayana is one such story which is symbolic of the Indian people and plays a major role in forming their day to day cultural activities. A part of the social engineering which took place thousands of years ago when the indigenous Dravidian tribes referred to as 'Asuras' in the book were defeated and pushed back to the south of India and further down towards the island and country which even to this day is known as Sri Lanka.

Well the book tells us about one of the known three hundred versions which is not heard of in the northern and many other parts of the country. As the author clearly puts it as the 'loser's story', this book gives us a more humane and historically and racially relevant version of the epic. A subversive take on a migrant culture which demonised the native ones and formed a racial superiority which is still prevalent in present India through social evils like the untouchability, misogyny and ostracization of the masses through caste system.

The author has done a very good work of co-relating the past with the present day and has blended this mythology very well with History. The book opens up the diversity of India and does its best to explain the presence of innumerable races in the country, their beliefs, their customs and how they have impacted the shaping up of a vast and almost non-comprehensive 'Indian culture' that we know today. As I would like to sum up in my one liner for the book:
'The winner takes it all but the loser always has the better story!'

Book Review: How ruthless can it get? Back in the 80's of North East England crime was a shortcut to making quick quids for some and getting high on Henry for others. Set in the city of Tyneside the plot is based on the events involving Davy who was brought up with a criminal background in the times when crime was equally as professional and merciless as it could be. The days when Villains played by the rules of the game. When a gunshot wasn't enough to inflict pain and revenge was not just a word!

The story is inspired by true events and manages to encapture the details of the Wild West phenomena in the country. The book spans around many English and Scottish cities like Newcastle and Aberdeen. With a lot of violence and the English county slangs a.k.a. Tom Hardy this book is not for the ones looking for some soft reading. In short this crime saga gets down to some serious business right from the very start.

Will crime pay for Davy in the long run as he witnesses a significant change in the Villain rules of the 90s? Will the legacy of old school villains be passed on to the next century? Find out for yourself in this book of crime and cocaine out now on our exclusive Amazon links!

Book Review: The story of Amaira- a seemingly next door Indian girl but a fierce warrior from within. Some unfortunate incidents in her life created a force around her psyche which helped her shield herself from vulnerable encounters and circumstances. But little did she know about the void in her which was circumventing inside with the passage of time, until she met another mighty warrior who would pierce through her defenses. Will she surrender to him or pick up her lost shield again?

The plot is interesting but builds up a little late which is why the book seems like just another mushy call center-IITians inspired-Indian authors book in the beginning. The characters are appealing and the author has mastered in portraying their strong emotions. The length of the book is a modest cent but the story manages to maintain a good momentum till the end which is why you would want to read more. I expect the author to come up with a sequel to the open ended story. Find out The Love Prisoner in Amaira now available on our exclusive Amazon book links below.

Book Review: The author tries to dig deep into the muted history and harsh facts of different civilizations with this book. The story revolves around or rather is based on the life of Helen- a bold woman who is passionate to go to any extent and travel to any horizon to open the pandora's box of her self-consciousness.

Iniyan is an amateur producer from India who is in a relationship with Helen's daughter. She builds an immaculate trust in him and hands him her personal journal offering him the liberty of using it as a script for his productions. As Iniyan goes through her story he realises that Helen's life was way beyond her public identity of being Ngai Tahu's wife- the chieftain of the Maoris- the indigenous tribe of New Zealand. Her strong Indian connection creates ripples in his mind as he rushes back to his country after producing a series on her life.

The book explores the creation and downfall of civilizations, the nexus of religion with violent colonizations and different cultures where sex is manipulated with spirituality. Clearly the author has a good command over anthropology and religious subjects but the one thing that makes him different from most Indian authors is his candid approach without hypocrisy of any sort. He has been blunt with his revelations on spiritual gurus of India. Also with his cross-over story he equates the plight of Dalits in India with the Maoris of New Zealand.

The writing style is very much modern and easily understandable for most readers. The book gets a little melodramatic in the end (like Indian family movies!) which might sound weird to readers outside Asian subcontinent but that should not discourage anyone from buying this book as the author has just been true to the hysteria of Indian families. Not just entertaining but an equally educational book on civilizations, religion and sex. Book purchase links now available on our reading shelf.

Book Review: Molly Moncrieff- An English actress/model survives a rape attempt in Milan only to further lose all her belongings alongwith her luggage upon reaching Rome. A guy she just met in the city comes to her rescue and offers her a place to live. There she builds up a good company with the guy named Max who takes good care of her. Sooner she realises that Max was different from all the men she met before. He was a true gentleman with in-depth knowledge of various cultural and historical topics. They spend quality time together walking around Rome with Max explaining the details and intricacies of the sculptures, the domes and the piazzas symbolising the great Italian architecture. Their union was one of a kind of that of the Hermes and Aphrodite with him as the God of travel and her as the Goddess of sexuality. As the days passed they found themselves engulfed in their passion for each other and experiencing the mystic sexuality of Greek gods. What better way to experience the romanticism of Rome!

Author Rebecca is marvellous with her detailing of Italian architecture and Renaissance subjects and her ability to carve a beautiful story as a travelogue which not many authors are successful at. She also has perfectioned the writing style of switching between narratives which again is her uniqueness. The only thing that might bother some readers is the length of the book but that will not be deterrent if you love travelogues with a good dose of Greek gods-inspired erotica. Highly recommended for travelling couples-in-love. This might be an answer to the missing spark in your life!
Book Review: Congratulations to the author for writing an amazing novel and bagging the first FIVE star review on the The Readers Express. The storyline is well narrated right from the beginning and maintains its pace on till the last page!

A gruesome cold blooded murder of a forty-eight year old man in San Diego, California and in comes SDPD Detective Scarlett Fry along with Detective Carr and other colleagues who have a mystery to deal with. The killer seems an amateur and the suspects from within the family yet the case lingers on for weeks due to lack of concrete evidence. Sooner as Fry and Carr get a heads up on the killer, there comes a shocker! Another murder with a similar crime scene! The prime suspect is gone in the trail of blood. Well, I won't disclose much but the array of kills conclude that a serial killer is on the loose and wouldn't stop till justice is served!

The characters are well marked and our female lead Detective Scarlett Fry is very appealing with CSI series like traits. The plot is crystal clear and anyone can get along easily with the book. There are lots of suspense, mystery elements and page-turners which keep you on your toes as if you are watching a crime series episode. This is surely a next-gen crime story with Detective Fry as your next door detective.

Book Review: Buddha said, 'It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light'. The author goes through a similar period while inside the four walls of prison after being convicted of a crime.

The book is about the transition phase of the author when he attained self-realisation post learning from the mistakes he committed in his life. Although he regrets being too late to achieve it yet he doesn't fret about it and wants to spend the rest of his life in motivating and guiding others. He has strong messages for children and teens and he believes that the young age is the most crucial time when the minds should be nurtured with education and good values. The author believes in the philosophy of 'causal and effect' also called Karma in Buddhism and advises to do and follow good things in life and to distinguish between good and bad there is always the power of education which must be attained by every individual.

The book is divided into two parts viz. Accept responsibility and Let your greatness begin. Both parts complement each other very well and are easy to read for most English beginners. The message conveyed is very clear and emphasis is given to all important points. The things which could have been improved are the case studies and examples which make a motivational book more interesting. Also adding quotes from eminent philosophers and historical personalities helps in engaging the readers.

The book has a sound educational connect and could be recommended for educational institutions and libraries. You would definitely want your young ones to be reading this book! Now available for purchase below on our online shop powered by Amazon.
Book Review: This book promises to reveal the secrets hidden in the silence of darkness. As the night falls, the cursed creatures rise in the wilderness searching for fresh human blood.

Maldorfina is a large territory in the legendary county of Transylvania- the land of blood thirsty Dracula-like vampire lords. Here the royal Drakes are not as savage as the medieval folklore. Infact they are considered protectors of the kingdom and its people having made a pact with them to survive along with the humans. To protect their people from all kinds of dangers they created warrior clans from the royal lineage and named them as the Guardians. The story is about Lena from the Guardian clan of Gerricksons who is desperate to get a permanent cure for her ailing sister. The world of vampires and werewolves is intriguing with deep secrets of immortality and all kinds of cure hidden in the dark forests but carrying a risk of inviting a hoard of deadly creatures which Lena must face in order to get the herbs and fruits which could completely cure her sister.

The story is a hit and reminds the readers of Twilight- like vampire and werewolf tales. The way author Ginny has created her version definitely stands out from the rest. The plot is deep and the pace is superb and you could easily imagine a movie running right in front of your eyes. The characters are strong and the leading lady Lena honestly looked like Kate Beckinsale and kept me completely hooked to the book.

The book deserves 5 stars but again as it is a series and the story is not complete I will have to read the next edition for the final verdict. Nevertheless the author Ginny has done an amazing work and her book deserves to be immediately bought. Now available on our online shop powered by Amazon!

Book Review: No one knows Alaska better than the author! The story is set in the year 1910 when the Labour reforms were still in a nascent stage and women's suffrage movement was rising. The economy was ruled by businessmen and mafia and the general public worked hard to earn a living unaware of the silent conspiracies hatched behind closed doors.

Amidst all these stood the well respected and brutally honest United States Marshal Gordon Whitford who has got lot many puzzles to solve, one after the another beginning with the dead body of Chilly George found in mysterious circumstances. He was no big shot, not even an offender, not even distantly close to the big guns or goons yet his killing was a planned one! Soon the motives behind a dead body would be revealed as more players come to the fore. The daughter-in-law Harriet, the friend Billy, the Doctor Theobold, the goon Black Jack Ramser, the tycoon C.M. Summers and the head of the Alaskan gold mine Bartlett Thane. The marshal has a tough job of connecting all the suspects while yet another robbery is committed. Gold is the priced catch and he has to dig deep inside the mines to solve the case. All the while he has to face yet another murder as the conspiracies doesn't seem to end. Once again the dead Chilly George comes to his rescue giving the marshal all the clues he needed to get to the perpetrators of the gold heist.

The characters are dark and well plotted which is the strength of a good crime-fiction but what makes the story apart is the impeccable detailing- an art which the author Steven Levi has mastered very well.

How far will the dead body of Chilly George take marshal Whitford in solving the spurt of crimes encircling Alaska? Well he would have to admit, dead men do come back!
Book Review: Here comes a Rock and Roll tale! Every year around the world numerous rock bands take shape and disband at the same time. What is it that leads to the success and failure of a Rock band?

Vanessa never had a normal childhood. Her father was a Rock star who died in his prime in an unfortunate accident which led the band to call it off and her mother to win a lawsuit against one of the members and get remuneration and settlement money for raising up a little girl. Ten years later she decides to meet the other members of the band for a school project and also out of the curiousity to know her father better through his closest companions.

The story is well-researched and you could feel the life and death of a Rock band and the unusual tales of people behind it. The conversational style of writing is good as it keeps the characters lively but too many dialogues sometimes makes it lengthy in some parts. The plot is exciting but is very predictable until a little before the last pages where there are shocking revelations in the story. Overall it is an entertaining work and would sure remind many of their college days!
Book Review: The first crime fiction reviewed on The Readers Express truly represents a well woven crime saga. The author creates an impressive quest in the mind of the reader to unravel the shocking mystery behind the vanishing act of a Greyhound bus- part of a 10 million dollar heist.

How could the bus occupied with 4 robbers and hostages totaling 12 on board all of a sudden vanish from a bridge while simultaneously being chased by the police both on road and on air? Here enters Captain Heinz Noonan- the quintessential detective with a repertoire similar to the Sherlock Holmes. He is going to make history and add a bright feather in his cap if he manages to solve this case. As he probes further it doesn't seem a traditional robbery as the criminals are not the ones on the run but are all around him tracking his every move!

The plot is deep and inciting which is vital for a good crime thriller. The protagonist although is strongly characterized but quite stereotypical which could have been more shady and interesting. The climax is a head spinner with unpredictable revelations and explanations by the investigating Captain. Truly the author has mastered the art of creating an impossible crime story!

Will he survive this wrong turn of business and political conspiracies behind the heist? The crime saga is now available on The Readers Express reviewed books column. Simply just a click away!
The Readers Express Rating:✪✪✪✪✰

Book Review: Whoa! This book is the one which completely justifies it's genre. Just as the name suggests it is the journey of two seasoned astronauts and one biological expert into space where their mission is to find the sources of life on a newly discovered planet.

The beginning is very smooth and exciting almost like a NASA documentary giving goosebumps to any space enthusiast. The author ensures to make it more realistic by highlighting the issues faced by the American organisation and makes you realise the need behind spending millions of dollars in space explorations. That being said, you will only get to know its role in saving the human race when you finish the book.

Well the journey continues and the detailing and description is minutely correct with the experiences of the space crew shared in a conversational style. At some point you actually feel the resemblance to the blockbuster hollywood movie 'Gravity' but upon reading further you will find something more gross happening to the crew. Just when you realise they have reached safely back on the earth, the story takes a sinister turn. They are on an earth-like planet but away from our solar system and worse when they are told that they are even away from the milky way! They have landed in another galaxy!!

Do you know about the theory of parallel universes currently boggling the scientific fraternity? Time dilation? Einstein's theories of time travel? The author does a marvelous work of depicting them through his story with an elan that makes even an average reader understand the nuances of Astronomical sciences.

But that is not all! The author does a conscience-rattling work of comparing science, logic and religion. In one of my favorite quotes below which is given by the alien to the crew while showing them the last days of the earth makes you think in a broader perspective.

"People on your planet have a desire to hoard precious metals and stones, like gold, silver, diamonds. This greed can never be satiated. While all these are a want, they're never a need. No one can live off these things. Air, water and food are needs. One requires these three things to survive- nothing else. Human greed is infinite. Before they realise it, need becomes a want and turns rapidly into greed. It's been the root cause of your planet's early demise."

This book deserves 5 stars but as it is the first part of the Galaxy series hence The Readers Express expects more from the author and is confident that the next book will be even better. Book Review: You got it! The word Phantasy created by the author resonates with 'fantasy' and that is what the book is all about. The realms of imagination that sets you off to a magical kingdom away from the existing Singapore of the 80's.

This happens to be the first part of the trilogy as per the author and he is successful in creating characters which give a lasting impression. The storyline is interesting but becomes predictable at times and there is not much for the reader other than a bedtime story. Highly recommended for children and teens but for adults the only catch is again 'fantasy' and if you love imaginative stories then this is the one for you.

The plot of the story revolves around the king of the magical kingdom, his heir to the throne who is also the lead character and of course the antagonist played by a demonic character very well created which I believe is most essential for a good fantasy story to click. The only thing which could be improved upon is the romance which comes a bit too late and finishes earlier than expected. The best part is the way the contrasting sequences of a real Singapore vis a vis the magical kingdom have been depicted. The language is simple and self explanatory at times which keeps up the pace and helps in breaking the monotony.

Finally the book is worth giving a good read and is excellent for gifting to youngsters keeping in mind the decent wordery of the book and the strata of imagination.

Well, then how did the Prince save his kingdom and what did he eventually lose in the battle? You guessed it. The answer could be found in the links below. So go ahead and satiate your 'fantasy' err I mean 'Phantasy' courtesy Just Dave!

Book Review: Do you believe in Karma? If yes; Then the book ‘Karma never dies’ is a must read for you. And if your answer is negative, then try it and see how your opinion changes by the time you finish reading the book.
The plot revolves around the life of a young boy named Dev, from Kerala who is born and brought up in Chandigarh. Although his family moves back to Kerala, Dev has his heart pinned to the city beautiful and thus decides to come back, despite disagreement with his family over the same issue. He finds a job at a Retail Outlet which is to be an important part of the whole plot itself. Through the book the author has portrayed and developed the protagonist’s changing relationships at his workplace, especially with his female friends. The author has used the relationship scenarios to bring forth both positive and negative effect they have on one’s life. This is how the lead character develops as an individual and learns that not everything is what is seems like. Thus by the end of the story we can find a truly rounded character, which has developed and learnt from his folly.

As far as the other characters of the book are concerned, they are well developed and will grab your attention, since you can easily relate to their traits. All the characters are life-like, and in each one of them, you can find one of your own thought processes running. The plot mostly moves through a diary format, which the author could have worked on better, since the same diary approach leads to confusion at times. The diary approach does not let us view the characters from any other point of you, except the lead character himself.

The writing style of the author which is mostly running in conversations becomes too lengthy at times, which could have been worked on better. But the book is written with a direct point of view to appeal the general public which means you won’t need a dictionary every second page. It’s easy, approachable and readable. I personally feel that the book could have been much more synchronized, had the author got a better editor at service.

But a few flaws of the book cannot let the beauty of the relationships explored go wasted. Thus, I rate the book three and a half stars and wish the author a very best for all his present and future works because, ‘With each work you will only grow better!’

Book Review: 'India was one' the title itself creates a curiosity in the minds of the reader and one wonders whether it is yet another story inspired by the ghastly partition of India. Even in the prologue one asks oneself what might have happened on a national scale which led to the separation of the protagonist 'Jai' with his beloved 'Kaahi'.

After a curious start, the story begins in past perfect with the introduction of Jai and his friends at the backdrop of their college life. They resemble an average group of students found in Indian colleges and their canteens, the lectures, their fun, their togetherness and the stereotypical bollywood inspired Indian youth's search for true love! Hence it wasn't surprising to find that Jai too managed to win the heart of Kaahi and their relation progressed successfully towards matrimony which is in fact averse to the 'love marriage stigma' which dreads most Indian parents even today in the country irrespective of urban or rural lineage.

As you continue with the story, you will find this as just a story of happy go lucky upper class Indians who can afford the privilege of a gala wedding and sending their kids to the US. As you go further, you would find them adjusting to the Indian society outside India but once they begin to closely monitor the lives of their counterparts in the alien country, they realise the beauty in the diversity of their own country which they never noticed while they were in their homeland. The author has beautifully demonstrated almost all the demographics and societal variations of Indian states. Also noteworthy are the travelogues of Europe and some parts of US.

Just when you seem to enjoy the lifetime experiences of the couple, a sudden change in the dynamics of Indian nationality enters their lives like a storm so severe that it leads to their separation as well. Is India all about race, caste, religion or cultural differences? Can a diverse land live peacefully sans its diversities? These are the questions that will rise in your mind when you read this story. It will rattle the hearts of Indians who put their community or religion above their country. The author has summed up his observation in a patriotic quote:

'You can take an Indian out of India but you cannot take India out of an Indian!'

Will Jai be able to re-unite with Kaahi? Will India be united again? Read this book of powerful message of Indian nationalism to find out the answers.

Book Review: Desire! Every human has it and craves for it but ever wondered how it could lead to something as ghastly as Perdition? Well, the story is about an Indian middle class boy named Sijill John who is just another average guy going through his teens in the initial chapters of the book but as the prologue suggests something sinister through the past perfect which led to his present condition and state of mind.

The journey begins with his narrative on how he spent his teenage
years with his school classmates and how they played an important part in
shaping his transition to adulthood. The plot is very pleasant with mischievous
and playful youngsters and sails smooth until a setback for Sijill in the form
of a separation from his love who obviously happens to be his classmate as well.
Although he recovers very soon yet the impressions cast a shadow over his next
relationship in his last years of college. His life still progresses but
constantly reminds him of his past which he desperately wants to let go.

If you thought this book is just a mushy love story then you will be
proved wrong as the book turns serious towards the end with the protagonist’s
brush with religious violence culminating with an event which leads him to
self-realisation and pushing him towards Perdition. Will he be able to save
her? Will she inspire him to love or hatred? Which path will he choose?

The book is lengthy but is recommended for most teenagers and
above as the writing is simple, easily understandable and yet imaginative. Also, the author goes satirical with his takes on the evils in the society and portrays them well through some of his characters. So, grab
a copy now and unlock the inspiring life of Sijill John.

Book Review: Ever wondered how nature transforms a Caterpillar into a Pupa and finally making it fly high as a Butterfly? Well, this book is about a similar metamorphosis happening in the life of the author herself. In fact the author believes that such a transformation can happen in the life of every person who chooses to believe and follow the path of Jesus Christ wholeheartedly.

The story is a testimony to the events happening in the life of the author who was a staunch Buddhist and just like the way any big change in a person's life has a supporting experience, she too went through a perplexing ordeal which graduated her towards Christianity and Jesus. A beauty contest doesn't sound like an event which could lead to something as serious and spiritual as changing one's life or identity but here in Winnie's case it did which gives us a reason to believe God's strange ways of guiding us towards the purpose and goals of our lives.

The writings of the author although qualifies as Christian book and every believer in Jesus would love to read it but the things that stand apart are the honest feelings evoked by the author and the positive vibes one gets by reading it. Even though the author accepts Jesus as her true God and savior yet she does not in any way criticize or discredit Buddhism or other religions which is commendable on her part. The experiences mentioned are not superficial and could happen to any normal person. Also, the book includes verses from the Holy Bible which have been nicely placed among the related parts in the story. For the poetry lovers there are some nicely written ones which give a light feel to the story. Similarly, the gospel songs with the piano chords and the inspirations could interest an instrumentalist. Finally, the book ends with spiritual chapters like 'My Journey Of Transformation' and 'The Tremor' where she lists thirteen positive changes or improvements which she noticed in her life since her baptism and an earthquake tremor which makes her understand the futility of human life and the need to constantly redeem ourselves in order to be able to re-unite with the supreme being.

So how did Winnie achieve this miraculous transformation? How did her family and society react to it? Was she able to entirely overcome her suffering? Read this beautiful life journey of Winnie to find out the answers and get inspired to shed your cocoon and fly like a butterfly!
